Dictators make spurious announcements in order to see who obeys and who doesn't, and then punish those who didn't, in order to further their own grip on power.
Whether the dictator does this one time, or a million times, each time matters. Each time you obey the dictator, other people see you obeying the dictator, which is you handing your credibility to the dictator. It entrenches them further. I don’t understand why the phrasing of the order matters. It’s very obviously a petulant and childish move made in response to trade negotiation failures with Canada. That’s literally what Trump himself has said:

Because my parent comment said that he was throwing a tantrum. I don't see any evidence that he is balling his eyes out, trashing the Oval Office, or screaming. The order is not written in childish frustration, but in a professional tone.
This is head in the sand behavior and I question your comment being put here in good faith.
These actions are not commonplace. This is not how you run a country. The long held names of bodies of water with international neighbors are now suddenly up for changes on a whim. No discussion, no convincing, just I say so.

Yea like naming Army street to Chavez and all the other hundreds of renamings of American place names over the last couple of decades… like we should be up in arms by now we just can’t contend with so much overwhelming change!
Or reaming stadiums (which get updated on maps) for sponsorships, renaming towns for sponsorships… we have a never ending stream of renamings to be mad at and wave our ineffectual fists at.
First, I suspect that if they buy a laminated map for children, it still has the old name, since there hasn't been time to print new ones and work them all the way through the supply chain.
Second, I don't think anyone is losing sleep at night over this, except for maybe Trump.
But third, yes, some of us do like, in our own small and quiet ways, not to cooperate with pettiness, arbitrary authority, and executive overreach.
Back in the day with tools like CVS the branching facilities were awful and the pattern we usually had was do almost all the development in the trunk and then split off branches for releases. You really need those because once you are working on 2.0 you may still need to drop 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.1.1, etc!
I think small tight-knit teams could still work in that style today. Practically that's what I do for projects I do solo.
I'm using LiveCode for a dozen personal applications (and for just the fun of coding; I'm a retired s/w engineer). It's no longer free, but I started with HyperCard and LiveCode is an excellent replacement, at least for me.
Thanks for letting me know, maybe I need to get back into it. I always enjoyed the speed with which I could prototype new ideas and even get them installed on a phone or tablet.
I would imagine 360 patches removed way more than 360 uses of strncpy. But yeah, it’s not a given that each of these patches addressed a bug. (Also not a given that there were only 360 bugs fixed.)
