Why not... Lem?

Lem's focus seems to be on being an "emacs" in and for Common Lisp. Lem throws away any attempts at compatibility with GNU Emacs.

That depends on what you mean by compatibility.

Keybindings and conventions and the like are basically the same.

I'm not actually convinced at this point on the value of a lot of the extant elisp out there.

I agree but lots of people probably don't.

In a way sad to say it but these days if I'm missing some functionality I just ask a clanker to write it and it's done in a few minutes.

Wake me up when all the 40-years of Emacs package development all migrated to Lem. Do you even use Org-mode? Anyone who tried it beyond just basic outline features knows very well - Org-mode needs Emacs to run. There's no such thing as "the clone of Org" that runs in anything else. We'd fly humans to Mars sooner.

I appreciate that AI is helpful, but the low effort from the humans that wield it is very very annoying. If people at least: 1. read the solution they're about to propose and 2. instructed the AI to check the forum for past solutions, I think people wouldn't have been as tired of LLMs.

I still pine for Lisp processors although array languages can now self-host on GPUs, which, APL-pilled, I now feel is better. It'd be so cool (...for compiler writers) to be able to control precisely which kernels stay in which cache levels etc.

Why is the PDF smaller than the Epub file?

The ePub contains both SVGs and PNGs, the latter of which doesn't compress all that well for "plain zip", which an ePub is.

The PDF on the other hand gets to use zlib for streaming all the objects. It gets half decent compression.

Probably vector-drawn diagrams are rendered into bitmap images for the EPUB version.

Wow, yeah. I need to start offering static hosting for like $.99 (although then micropayments become an issue...) As is, I host like 100 business' sites on my VPS and only recently surpassed 1% bandwidth.

Probably better to do $10/year thsn $1/month... Maybe have a shorter first increment for people that don't want to risk $10...

Bunny.net has a similar model and it's nice (Top up the account and minimum $1 per month).

This website also has a pricing model that is a bit discouraging and quite common in my experience. Nice free tier, thanks, but the first paid tier is a bit far out of reach or not worthy. My only guess is that they are forced to do it this way to fund the free tier.
