>You cannot risk companies like Anthropic, OpenAI or their business partners like Microsoft having unfettered access to proprietary data on your company/businesses.
You do realize that businesses that have contracts with them can specify if they want their data used for training or not right?
This doesn't follow for me. There are what, Dozens or Erdos tier problems that got solved with no progress for decades? How does that factor in to your view?
IIUC the argument is that while unsolved there was much work done on them that shows up in the training data. The idea being that the LLM is limited to a small amount of inference over externally supplied data.
You are wrong. A teenager with enough GPUs could never dream of making a nuke but they are absolutely able to run capable AIs in their moms basement. Totally different class of danger
Honestly I find these cavalier statements to be in incredibly poor taste. Unless you are completely blind it's obvious that AI is the most significant piece of technology invented since the Atomic Bomb and could very well be the most important thing ever built by Humans full stop. This kind of dismissive attitude is childish and will likely lead to incredibly bad outcomes for humanity.
Sorry the open sourcers cannot ever come to that believe as it sets up a conflict that cannot be resolved by their moral framework. Exactly like libertarians saying "just a little less regulation and we'll reach utopia".
I think he's literally conceding your point by writing this essay. That there will be massive upheaval and yes maybe pitchforks if we don't get ahead of the problems.
nothing will happen. the '20s and '30s were much worse compared to today and nothing happened. Americans are much more complacent now than even then. People aspire to get rich, like on TikTok and "hustle culture," not to hang the rich.
