Add some “we don’t accept cash” signs too to be nice to your customers, I’ve seen multiple instances of flustered people getting caught by no cash policies in the last year.

It’s the worst once someone has gone all the way through a tablet/GUI menu and made all their purchase decisions only to be awkwardly thwarted at the payment step. Negative bonus points if there is a line of customers behind the pour soul attempting to use cash

We're waiting on some decals for the front door that say just that.

That's a good option, because if there's a shop next door that takes cash I will definitely go there and tip in cash.

And I'd go the other way. We both get to do things the way we want without getting in each others way. The system works!

[UK here, where I feel we are slipping slowly but relentlessly towards the worst parts of the American Way in many areas including this one]

I typically use a credit card but on principle, I avoid places that don't accept cash.

There are many less fortunate people that can't get a credit or debit card and I don't want to support practices that hurt them even more.

Capital one has free checking. So that's no problem.

Cash costs money too. We always talk about the cost of credit cards but always forget the cost of dealing with cash.

I'm super happy with all this modernization. I only need to carry an Apple Watch, not even my phone. I love it.

> people that can't get a credit or debit card

Why is that?

No fixed address.

Not enough spare money to maintain a bank account.

No desire for a high-fee credit card, no access to a low-fee credit card.

No acceptable documentation.

Interesting. The second one strikes me as odd. I have never paid any fees for a current account unless it went into the red, not in the UK nor in Norway. And a debit card is free in Norway and the UK.

They meant that the person doesn’t have enough to maintain the minimum balance in the account.

This just seems like an unnecessarily unkind response that you could have kept to yourself.
