Indeed. And not if that layover is overnight and you ask to take your bags off Atlanta airport whilst you sleep at the hotel nearby, scrapping that ATL>Costa Rica leg the next day as no show. That’s another trick I haven’t seen mentioned around: the extra ‘dummy’ leg at the end sometimes make a huuuge difference.
