To be fair, everything they do, and other blogs/services/websites -- is to "get traffic". They arent running a charity.

I dont think they really overhyped another rumor, I think they just published another rumor. Thats what they are -- a rumormill. And thats fine. A lot of people like being on the cusp of new news, even when its wrong or partially incorrect most of the time.

Ive always read TC with that in mind, and I dont understand why most people think TC should be some beacon of journalistic integrity. 1 - its a blog. 2 - its admits to being first over right. It isnt the washington post.

This wasnt presented as a rumor (yes I know they said it was but the wording gave it an edge of "this is more than just a rumor guys!!!!") at all.

It's not just this story that has triggered my reaction: there has been several in the last few weeks that makes TC just too much effort to read. Why take the time to extract the real information from their spin when there are much better blogs / news sites already doing that for me :)

EDITL: here you go - they even wrapped the retraction into a sensationalist headline :) http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/04/03/twitter-wouldnt-sell-fo...

I do have to hand them the crown of best at marketing themselves - and that's great, why not. But I dont have the patience to read it any more :)

Admittedly, I havent read TC directly for a while. But I'm ok with the few that pass through the HN filter to me.
