I think Elixir[0] may be the new hyped language. PragProg seems to be positioning[1] themselves[2] for a hype cycle on it, at the very least.

No matter the whole hype cycle I do actually reckon Elixir is positioned to be the new leader on the programming-web-front: being underpinned by Erlang means it is the ONLY platform/language out there so far with super solid scalability to rival Java AND a light/novel way of programming. That being said I'm personally doing fine with newer versions of PHP (which for my purposes are solid and fine when backed by best practices and prepared sql statements!)
