That actually seems expensive for a device without a screen or input devices.

I wish that Chromecast and Apple TV supported an open standard for streaming rather than everyone using their own proprietary standards.

AFAIK Chromecast uses DLNA underneath (which is mostly RTSP + mDNS discovery?).

It hardly matters what they use when you need a client certificate to be able to connect.
